Lessons from a dead girl
by Jo Knowles
Review by Melissa Payne (6TH grade almost 7TH)

Lesson from a dead girl is a sad book but it shows a very important lesson inside the plot itself. The lesson is if you’re a kid and another kid is abusing you, you should tell someone before some gets hurt. And if you don’t it could haunt you for life but if you have the right friends that would back you up and just be there for you it wouldn’t be as bad. And be careful of what you wish for because it just might come true.

Leah and Lain were best friends but what Leah did to Lain in the dolls closet is just wrong. And later in life it just haunted Lain a lot but when she met Jess and Web she knew this friendship is way different then the one with Leah. This friendship is real unlike the one with Leah. But in the end a tragic thing has happened. I wont tell because you have to read the book to find out the rest.

I really liked this book but it showed me a very important lesson. And the lesson is in the first paragraph. And if I had to rate this book 1-5 stars. I would rate this book 5 stars. And if I would have to recommend this book. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy books about tragic lives of people.

Rangers Apprentice Book Four: Battle For Skandia
By John Flanagan

The Battle For Skandia is about Will, Halt, Evanlyn and Horace. They find a dangerous group of people that plan to attack. The rest of the book is about how Halt helps the Skandians fight back.

This book was very interesting but hard to fallow at some points. I loved the action in it though! John Flanagan has such great descriptions. Every sentence he writes is like a puzzled piece that adds to the huge picture. You could say his books are inspiring.

I recommend not only this book but the whole series to anyone who likes a long series. There are 11 books and Flanagan is continuing to write them. Also they are great for people that like action.

I rank this book 4 stars. Everything was excellent but the one thing I didn't like was that it was kind of confusing. Over all, it was a good read.

Series of Unfortunate Events #3: The Wide Window
by Lemony Snicket

This book was really interesting. It's about three kids whos parents died in a fire at their house and now their orphans. The kids stayed with their Aunt Josephine in the small town of Lake Lachrymose on the Lake Lachrymose.

If you read the first and second book, you will find that Count Olaf is trying to steal the Baudelaire fortune. This book is just one of his many attempts to get it. I will let you read them and this one too.

I would rate this book a 5 on a scale from 1-5 because it is entertaining and it has some harder vocabulary but it explains it to you instead of making you look it up.

Cross By James Patterson
Reviewed by Jeffrey Mordecai-Smith

Cross is about a detective named Alex Cross who is investigating the murder of his wife. He learns that the killer is a serial-rapist named Michael Sullivan who calls himself the Butcher. He decides to confront him.
I didn't like this book much because James Patterson's writing is very bland with a small vocabulary in this novel.
I would recommend this for anyone who follows James Patterson's novels.

Forever Odd by Dean Koontz
Reviewed by Jeffrey Mordecai-Smith

Forever Odd has a strange plot. At the beginning, The main character, Odd Thomas, sees the ghost of a local doctor. He goes to the man's house and sees that he is dead and his son is missing. He pursues with "psychic magnetism" and finds them at a casino. Danny is tied to a bomb and he tells Odd that he was kidnapped by a lady named Datura who met him through phone-sex where she found out about Odd's powers and wants them for herself.
Will Odd escape with Danny?

I'd recommend this book to people who like mysteries and don't mind a strange plot. I would rate this book four stars.

I am Nujood Age Ten and divorced
by Nujood Ali with Delphine Minoui
This book is about a little girl who was born in the middle of nowhere (Yemen). Truck drivers would rather take a longer route than go thru her town if you could even call it a town. There were about 7 families living there. She did not know how old she was because she had no birth certificate. Anyway she was married when she thought that she was about 10. I would tell you more but it would ruin the amazing story. I would recommend this book to anyone above 3rd grade. If I got to rate it I would choose 5 out of 5 stars because it is told so honestly. Chosen
Ted Dekker
Ted Dekker's novels take the reader on a roller coaster ride as he unveils the plot. His character development is superb, and the reader immediately becomes attached to the subjects of the book.

Chosen is the tale of good and evil, and a great start to Ted's Circle series. We follow a young boy named Johnis who is the "Chosen One" to find the Lost Books of History, which will save their people of the forest against the Horde and the evil Shataiki Bats, who all serve the one evil enemy.

The end of this book leaves the reader hanging off a cliff and anxious to read the next novel in the series.

I loved reading this book, as I enjoy fantasy and suspense. I also love a little romance, which is entwined throughout the story. I would give this book 5 stars, and I would recommend this to anyone in for a wild ride and a wonderful read.

White Cat by Holly Black
Review By Calista Mordecai-Smith (7th grade)

White Cat is about a boy named Cassel. Cassel comes from a family of curse workers--people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. He hasn't got the magic touch, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail -- he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.
When he finds himself sleep walking on his school's dorm roof he start to wonder if Lila is still alive because she was a dream worker and could change their dreams and make people sleep walk. It is a very weird story and just keeps getting weirder.

I recommend this book to people and things who like very weird things. I rate this book a 5 because it is a really really great book.
